Talita was born in Auckland, beautiful New Zealand. She began life with a couple of dramatic events. Firstly, Talita was born with a hole in her heart, and began life in an incubator in hospital. The hole eventually closed over, and Talita went home to meet her mother, father and brother. The next major event in Talita's life, before even her 1st birthday, was a massive car crash...a drunk driver that smashed into the drivers side of her mother's car. Her mother almost died, and was rushed to hospital. Talita, in a baby seat in the back (between the 2 front seats) flew out of her baby seat, and between the 2 front seats and through the front car windscreen. As she headed towards the road as the car rolled, her baby cardigan got hooked on the bottom of the car rear vision mirror. Some strangers who rushed to the scene found her hanging there with her little cardigan safely caught by the mirror!!! Talita has asked her mother about this many times, to remind her it really did happen - so unbelievable she finds the story of how she lived through that crash. Her only injury was a small cut on her left cheek - in the shape of a 't'.
After a crazy start to life, Talita remained a quiet and happy girl. She listened to the radio pop hits avidly from the age of a toddler. She started playing the piano shortly after, at age 3. Her mother (who sadly passed away in 2010) remembered her as ”not making a beautiful melody straight away, but not making noise either”. An extremely shy girl, Talita's school reports always mentioned how shy she was.
Taking up the saxophone and clarinet at age 14, she also started composing songs at around this time. Firstly they were melodic piano and saxophone tunes, then later on she started singing lyrics to them. A high achiever right through school, and in music, art and design competitions out side of school, Talita knew that her dream of wanting to make a CD of her own would not remain just a dream, even as some school mates laughed at her idea.
After completing school, and a Bachelor of Science in architecture at Sydney University, Talita realised that she was miserable, and started making music again. Having no connections in the local music industry, she didn’t have a band to work with… and so she began to learn home recording. The computer generated sounds allowed her to create and record her own songs from start to finish. In the process, she also gained skills in arranging, extended her skills in song writing, and learnt music engineering and mixing. She had formal training and awards for music, right through high school, and later at the Christchurch Jazz School and Linwood Urban Music Academy. She also gained several finalist placements in international song writing competitions.
Having played with other bands, and playing a tour of Europe with another New Zealand band, Talita wanted to have her own band, so that she could play the music she really loved. She gradually started introducing originals songs to her band's members. In 2009 Talita and the band decided that now was the time to release some of Talita's singer-songwriter music to the world!
Four months ago, 'enough was enough' of enduring thousands of terrifying Christchurch (New Zealand) earthquakes (recording her latest song 'Don't Go' in between aftershocks). She decided to permanently relocate to the gorgeous and sunny city of Perth, in Western Australia. Still, after releasing one pop-folk album and a new 3 track E.P, Talita is looking forward to recording her new and latest pop-folk songs (once she has made herself at home in her new town), and some funky saxophone originals. Focusing on performance and composition on vocals, piano, and saxophone, Talita also plays the irish whistle, guitar and flute.
