Talita Saxophone photoTalita started playing the saxophone about 2 years after she fell in love with it after watching a legendary performance by Chris White, Dire Straits saxophonist on television for Nelson Mandela's birthday concert. When she finally got her hands on a sax at age fourteen ‘it felt better than a hundred Christmases all at once’. It wasn’t long before Talita started to make that saxophone sing, and after only a year of playing she picked up the award for ‘Most Promising Female Musician’ at the Rockquest regional finals in Christchurch. She also achieved the highest grades across all instruments in the region for Trinity examinations, on both saxophone and clarinet.

Her latest saxophone venture is an originals and covers smooth jazz saxophone band. They are currently recording their debut album of her original funky-sweet-smooth jazz, with a twist…influenced by Talita’s love of the late 70’s and 80’s funk and pop music. For all of the saxophone enthusiasts out there, Talita plays an old Conn 10M Ladyface tenor saxophone (1936), with a Dukoff D8 mouthpiece, and uses La Voz reeds. She has also just got a sweet old french soprano sax from the 1950's which is beautiful. It will be featured in her up coming vocal album.

Her saxophone idols include Grover Washington Jr, Candy Dulfer, Chris White, Maceo Parker and Michael Brecker. Other instrumentalists and smooth jazz musicians that she loves to listen to include Acoustic Alchemy, Earl Klugh, Lee Ritenour, Pat Metheny, Joe Satriani and John Scofield.
